After scoring one goal in Tusker FC’s 2-0 win over Miembeni as they met in the semi-finals of the Mapinduzi Cup, new signing Jesse Were increased his tournament goal-tally to four goals (in four matches).
As it stands, Were is currently the tournament’s top-scorer, followed by Adeyum Saleh of Miembeni, who netted three goals.
Kenyans Jockins Atudo of Azam, Michael Olunga of Tusker, Haruna Chanongo of Simba and Mfanyeje Juma of Jamhuri each have two goals to their names.
However, with Simba and Jamhuri already out of the tournament, Atudo and Olunga remain the only realistic challengers to Were’s golden-boot bid.
It will be, however, a tough order for them as they each will be required to net at least three goals and hope that Were does not live to his past performance, to snatch the award that is facing his direction.
