The Suba Lakers Girls Football Club
will host the second Annual Junior Girls Tournament on Friday, July 29, 2011.
Sixteen Primary School teams
comprising of girls aged 14 and below have entered this year’s competition that
will be held at Mbita
Part of the teams taking part
include; Gethsemane Gardens from Mfangano
Island as well as Wasaria and Temo both
from Rusinga Island. The other 14 teams’ are all from
the mainland within Mbita District.
three preliminary games
The competition will be played with
seven players aside on smaller fields to maximize opportunities for the players
to be active and involved in the games.
According to one of the organizers
Joe Peterson, each team will play in three preliminary games before the
knockout stages begin. All of the
participants will receive lunch and each team will get a ball and
Several guest speakers, including
the Mbita District Quality Assurance Officer Mr. Ragot, will be coming to share
with the nearly 200 girls participating and the spectators about issues that
are affecting the girl child in this area.
Soccer jerseys and shorts
The winning team will be take home Kshs
3,000 to share among the players. A full set of kit that includes Soccer
jerseys and shorts for each player will also be issued to the winning team. The second and third place teams will also
receive cash prizes.
In the first edition held last
year, Milimani Academy, a new up and coming school were
declared the Champions. Runner up was Temo
while Christ’s Gift
Academy emerged third.
