Kenya’s alpha striker Dennis Oliech opened his goal scoring account in the new season in style sending AJ Auxerre two goals up in 11 minutes in a Ligue 1 clash played today.
But Oliech efforts unfortunately came short of handing Auxerre their first three points of the season after the seventh round of games in the new season.
In just the first minute of the game, Oliech caught up with a through ball from Roy Contout to fire beyond Gennaro Bracigliano with a low drive for his first goal of the season.
Contout once again combined well with Oliech for the second. Oliech headed back a pass from Contout and ran into space and he fired in the resultant return pass past Bracigliano to send Auxerre two up.
brace canceled out
But Nancy began an immediate fight back and got a goal in the 17th minute through Alexandre Cuvillier header. It was all level in the 36th minute when Marama Vahirua beat Auxerre keeper Oliver Sorin.
Oliech should have scored a third to earn a hat trick but he wasted a close range effort that came off a rebound after his skipper Benoit Pedretti had thumped the bar.
Auxerre needed a morale boosting win ahead of its Champions League clash against Spanish giants Real Madrid at the Stade Abbé Deschamps this coming Tuesday.
But with Oliech’s brace canceled out, the team settled for a fifth draw in seven games. The point earned moves the team from the relegation zone [19th] and up to 17th place.
Fighting Nancy dropped a position to 15th with eight points.
