Four teams will be fighting for
a place in the finals of the ongoing Makadara Junior U18 tournament at the St.
Patrick’s Primary Maringo grounds on Saturday 22 December 2012.
The tournament that kicked off three weeks back attracted eight juniors teams that were pooled in two group of four teams each.
After playing round robin within their groups, Hakati Junior Bees and Makongeni (MASA) emerged as the two best sides from Group ‘A’ with seven and five points respectively from three games. Vap and Salem Sportiff completed the group.
Young Rovers collected a maximum nine points in Group ‘B’ to emerge top with Young Rovers coming in second with four points. Buru Buru Sports and Mbotela Kamaliza Youth were also part of this group.
In the first semifinal that kicks off at 0930 hrs local time, Makongeni (MASA) will face off with Young Rovers for a place in the final.
In the next semi set for 1130hrs local time, Hakati Junior Bees will challenge Jericho AllStars.
According to one of the organizers’, the tourney is meant to give young and fringe players a chance to showcase what they are made off.
-The tournament is giving a lot of players who don’t get to play regularly for their clubs a chance to do so, said one of the organizers Sammy Achima
-Beyond that, being lengthy holiday period, the tournament is helping keep the youth active and away from any vices
The final will be played on Sunday 23 December at the same grounds from 1100hrs local time. Prior to the final, there will be the losers final for the teams that drop of at the semifinal stage.
At stake in the finals is pride, a cup and medals – there is no cash.
