AFC Leopards chairman Alex Ole Magelo has declared that his team is ready to face Gor Mahia in the two sides’ Top 8 match that was called off earlier in the season due to safety fears after the ill fated derby on Sunday 18 March.
Magelo, says the tension that dominated events at the time has now cooled down and as long as the tournament’s organisers can assure the team of safety in the stadium he will give the all clear for the players to be prepared.
-We are ready for the game against Gor Mahia in the Top 8. At first we were reluctant because the atmosphere was too tense for the game to go on yet it is my responsibility to see that players are safe.
-If the tournament’s organisers can give us an assurance of safety in the stadium we will gladly participate because the tension has cooled down considerably, he told journalists at the team’s training ground at Moi Forces Academy.
Magelo had earlier made an undertaking never to play Gor Mahia again after the ugly scenes during the derby, which has adversely affected the prestigious Top 8 tournament.
