West Pokot based Tartar Girls have been
crowned the 2012 champions in the just concluded Airtel sponsored Kenya
Secondary Schools Associations (KSSSA) games.
Tartar, who bundled out Kobala Girls with a 3-1 beating to book a place in the finals, thumped St John Kaloleni 5-0 in the finals that took place at the Shanzu Teachers training college Mombasa on Saturday 11 August 2012.
Tartar’s Neddy Atieno who is also National U20 ladies team skipper proved a threat to their opponents netting four goals for her side in the 8, 26, 31 and 65th minute respectively, Miriam Chelagat also chipped in at the 59th minute to make it five for the West Pokot side.
St John head Coach Julius Oyoo bemoaned his side’s flop asserting that they failed to play according to instructions.
-The players failed to follow the instructions during the match. I must admit that Neddy played so well but our defender who was to mark her failed.
-Otherwise, we look forward to rectify our mistakes before we travel to Bujumbura.
His parting words were also echoed by Tartar counterpart Julius Natoka who hailed his side’s victory.
-I am impressed by the team’s performance, Neddy is a talented player, she has been very influential in our wins and I am confident of the encounters ahead.
Heading to Burundi
The two sides will represent the country in the East African School games that will be played in Burundi from 20 August 2012.
