Former AFC Leopards Head Coach Jan Koops has reportedly quit
coaching Division One Zone B side Kolongolo FC.
The Club’s Director Kizito Namulanda however says he is yet
to receive any official communication from the Dutchman but has admitted they
were differences that had arisen.
-I’m very surprised with the way Koops has handled this
matter. We are his employers and he chose not to inform us of his resignation,
Namulanda told futaa.com.
-There are differences that arose recently. We offered Koops
a fully furnished house in Nambale where our team is based but he instead chose
to stay in Busia,
-He therefore demanded that we be paying his daily transport
to and from Nambale which we also found hard to deliver baring in mind we are
small community club,
-He is also in Nairobi regularly and started demanding that
we pay his airfare whenever he is travelling back and also provide taxis to
pick him either at the Eldoret or Kisumu airports.
-We gave him a reasonable salary package and a house and could not afford
to meet his other demands. We are a small club without a corporate sponsor and
our top most priority is to identify and nurture talent and we cannot afford
his outrageous demands. I doubt whether other teams in the Tusker Premier
League can meet his selfish demands, Namulanda lamented.
-It is very unfortunate that he chose to resign through the
media but I want to remind him that he has a legal contract with Kolongolo and has therefore acted unprofessionally, he concluded.
Kolongolo has so far played two matches in the Division One
Zone B Group 1 League, playing to a barren draws against Comply and Nzoia.
