Iddi; It’s time to get Gor goalies back to the National team

Newly acquired Gor Mahia goal keeper trainer Abdul Iddi Salim is already setting targets, within and without the team, with close to a month into his new role.

The keeper trainer now wants his keepers to up their level so that they can return to their respective national teams.


-I want all the goal keepers to improve in their roles and I want to see them return to the National teams because I know they all have that quality, he said to

-With specialized training under the right conditions, they are all capable of excelling at the club and beyond, he added while referreing to his keepers; Frederick Jerim Onyango, Wycliffe Kasaya and Tanzanian National Ivo Mapunda.

Till Iddi’s arrival, Gor Mahia had been without a keeper trainer since Charles Omondi Korea left that position sometimes back.

Fitness training

Former team skipper Julius Awilo Owino held forte after Korea but was dismissed in early March when Gor Mahia’s top dogs sent head Coach Anaba Awono home as well as the entire technical bench.

Iddi is a former Kenya U17 player (1994). He was a keeper for League side Utalii (1999, 2000), Kenya Pipeline and Mbale Heroes (Uganda) thereafter.  

He has had several training in the recent past that include an advance Course in fitness training.

Kenya U20 keeper trainer

Until very recently, the yet to be confirmed Gor keeper trainer was a renowned youth Coach at the Coast where he was running his own Academy

Iddi was appointed the Kenya U20 keeper trainer on Tuesday 10 April, a position he also holds at Division One Zone A side Ligi Ndogo SC as well as at Liberty Professionals.
