It's official. Kenya's Harambee Stars will take on Sudan's Falcons of Jediane in the final of the GOtv CECAFA Senior Challenge Cup, set for play on Thursday 12 December.
This is after the Stars handed the Kilimanjaro Stars a 1-0 beating in the semi-finals of the tournament, a match played on Tuesday 10 December at the Nyayo National Stadium.
The match had all the trappings of a tournament dampener, after it failed to take-off at the Kenyatta National Stadium, on account of flooding, but after it was shifted to Nyayo, it hit the run-way on a thrilling pace.
Three minutes after kick-off, Clifford Miheso landed on a ball that Tanzania's keeper, Gor Mahia
's Ivo Mapunda had punched back into play. He (Miheso) wasted no time driving it into the back of the net, to give the Stars a one-goal
advantage, going into the half-time break.
As the teams entered the pitch for the second half, the Tanzanians appeared more pressured to find an early goal.
On the 50th minute, Mbwana Samatta rode with the ball to the edge of the box, creating some threatening seconds for the Kenyan Stars. However, his finishing failed him, as he shot wide.
20 minutes into the second half, Allan Wanga, pairing with Francis Kahata made a run close to the Tanzanian box, but as the latter was about to shoot, he was felled and awarded a free-kick, which was wasted.
On the 89th minute, Samatta picked the ball on the left flank and after outrunning Kenya's defenders shot long and hard. The ball scraped over the cross-bar, much to the relief of the Kenyan fans.
The match ended on a 1-0 scoreline in favour of Kenya.
