FC vice chairman Faiz Ochieng has revealed a
conspiracy by a certain group of people to cause violence and unpleasant scenes
during Sunday 18 March derby game between the team and AFC Leopards
Nyayo National Stadium.
Torch the buses
The official, who is standing in for the club’s chairman Mr.
Ambrose Rachier who is out of the country said he has stumbled on some
intelligence that there is a group of people planning to torch the buses of the
two teams during the game.
Speaking to futaa.com, Faiz warned all those planning to
cause the unpleasant scenes that they should just keep off the stadium
altogether and asked football lovers to grace the game for there will be
-I have reliable information that some people, high ranking
people in the country have ill motives ahead of this game. I know there is a
plan being hatched to burn the buses of the two teams and as the home team Gor
Mahia is in charge of security and we won’t allow that.
-I am speaking on behalf of the chairman who is out of the
country and I’d like to warn all people with ill motives to keep off the
stadium premises because we know their intentions. They should also remember
that as the home team we reserve the right of admission, if we feel you have
bad intentions, we will lock you out. However, I am calling on all the football
lovers to come and watch the game peacefully, he said.
Security issues have always been the quagmire in games
involving these two clubs, which have the biggest following in the country and
are also the most successful. Last year, violent scenes erupted during the FKL
Cup semi final involving the two sides, causing the abandonment of the game,
with Gor Mahia leading at the time.
