Even after the Football Kenya Federation was given the green light to increase the Premier League teams from 16 to 18, it now insists that it is ready to work with only 15 teams in the forthcoming 2017 season, this is according to FKF President Nick Mwendwa.
On Tuesday 10 January 2017, the Sports Disputes Tribunal orders the Kenya Premier League and Football Kenya Federation to go back and discuss on the merits, modalities and mechanism of discussing the KPL expansion but the change might not take effect this season.
According to a post on one of the President’s social media page, only the teams that met the FIFA Club licensing criteria will feature in the 2017 campaign.
-We want 18 teams KPL but only 15 meet the criteria. So only those will be in the League for the first 2017 season.
