Football Kenya Federation (FKF) has temporarily suspended the result of the Kenyan Premier League Top Eight fixture pitting Gor Mahia FC against AFC Leopards SC until the organizers respond to its letter.
The match scheduled, Sunday 29 July, at Moi International Sports Centre, Kasarani, was awarded to Gor after AFC failed to turn-up.
In a stern letter dated July 30 2012, addressed to KPL Chairman James Musyoka over the Top Eight Tournament, FKF, through its Chair Sam Nyamweya, demanded to be furnished with security measures, rules and regulations of the tournament.
-Football Kenya Federation being the sole body mandated to develop, encourage, control, regulate and to generally assist in every way the game of football in all spheres in Kenya according to the Laws of the Game as authorized by the FIFA statutes, do hereby register its displeasure in the manner in which the Kenyan Premier League has been handling the organization of matches, read the letter.
-In conformity with the FKF constitution Article 17 (1), the Federation is entitled to recognize all the Clubs, leagues, branches or other groups of clubs affiliated to it but which shall be subordinate to the Federation.
-In this respect, the Federation wrote two letters to KPL dated 26th and 27th July 2012 on the above mentioned subject matter, requesting to be furnished with the following;
1. A detailed security plan developed by KPL for handling this Top 8 match
2. The Rules and Regulations governing the Top 8 Tournament
-It is with regret to mention that, KPL did not adhere to this request and up to date, the Federation has not been furnished with these documents.
-Since our core business is to manage, control, regulate, develop and encourage all football related activities, we believe in fairness and proper management and organization of the league and any such activity related to football including those organized by KPL and even the sponsor. This formed the basis of our proposal to KPL to postpone the match until a meeting where AFC Leopards and Gor Mahia, two clubs would be represented was convened and all related matters in respect of staging this contentious match would be discussed and agreed upon.
-This was however not heeded and at such the Federation directs that the results of this Top (8) match remains in abeyance pending your response and the Federation’s actions on your response which should be filed by 12.00 noon on Tuesday 31st July 2012.
-Kindly be advised that the Federation will take action even in the eventuality that a response is not received from yourself. We are going to ensure that all leagues are managed professionally, concluded the letter.
