On Saturday 22 September, Division One sides Admiral FC and Sparki Youth met in a derby clash, played at the Tudor Day School grounds.
The match was abandoned two minutes to the end of regulation time, after a group of individuals stormed the pitch and assaulted center referee Martin Wekesa, as he was about to flash a red-card to a Sparki player.
Following the incident, Football
Kenya Federation’s National Executive Committee held a meeting on Wednesday 26
September to decide on the fate of the match, and the teams and the following
was ruling as presented in the meeting.
- Sparki assistant Coach Daudi Kajembe who attacked the referee injuring him seriously has been suspended for life from all football activities.
- Mohammed Kheri the former Harambee stars Coach and currently in Sparki Technical Bench suspended from all football related activities for a period of 365 days for his role in the incident.
-Sparki FC players Kelvin Odhiambo Card No KN OO12, Ali Khamis Card No KN OO180 and Rama Izungu Card No KN OOO96 are also suspended for 365 days .
-Sparki FC has been docked six points which will be reflected in the current table standings.
-Sparki FC will pay all the medical bills for the injured referee until he fully recovers.
The Federation also resolved that Sparki FC will play their next matches at the Mbaraki Sports Ground where security will be guaranteed
Earlier there had been talks of the club getting suspended, with Sparki hinting at a conspiracy to get them off the league.
