Uganda Cranes are through to the CECAFA semifinals after
their convincing 2-0 win over their quarterfinal opponents Ethiopia at the
Nambole Stadium on Tuesday 4 December 2012, a game that kicked off from 1900hrs local time.
Kenya’s group stage destroyer Godfrey Kizito returned to haunt the Ethiopian in the sixth minute after pouncing on a loose ball at the area to slot the opener.
The Cranes who are backed by a commendable number of their fans at the Nambole Stadium pile pressure from the onset.
They should have taken the lead in the first minutes of the match but the Ethiopian defenders were alert only for them to collapse in concentration minutes later.
The second half was no different as the Cranes raided the Ethiopian with all that they had.
Their hard work paid off on the 61st minute when Robert Sentongo danced his way through the box to unleash a thunderbolt that caught the Ethiopian keeper unawares.
Ethiopia suffered a narrow 1-0 defeat in the hands of the Ugandans in the group stages before their 3-1 thumping by Kenya’s Harambee Stars in the other group B match.
Cranes will now take on Tanzania in the second semifinal match on Thursday 6th December 2012 at the Namboloe Stadium.
Kenya’s Harambee Stars will play Zanzibar in the first semifinal match at the same venue.
