Interim Chelsea manager Rafael Benitez has been named the Barclays Premier League Manager of the Month for April.

The Blues had an impressive month, getting 10 points from a possible 12 after beating Sunderland, Fulham and Swansea and drawing with Liverpool.

Two year spell

Benitez becomes the first Chelsea manager in more than two years to get the recognition after Carlo Ancelotti was feted in April 2011.

The Spaniard has collected the accolade six times now but this is his first since March 2009, when he claimed the prize while manager of Liverpool.

Meanwhile, Manchester United forward Robin van Persie was also named the Barclays Premier League Player of the Month for April.

Van Persie scored six goals in April, including a first-half hat-trick against Aston Villa, in the night that the club collected its 20th top-flight title.

The Dutchman currently has 25 league goals, two ahead of Liverpool forward Luis Suarez, and looks certain to claim the Golden Boot for the second year running due to the Uruguayan's ban for biting Branislav Ivanovic.
