Despite the spirited
efforts by the Football Kenya Federation (FKF) to woo West African giants Ivory
Coast to make an appearance as the guest team in the 2013 CECAFA Senior
Challenge tournament to be held in Nairobi, the regional body’s management is
not too keen on having the Ivorians around.
As quoted by Rwandese daily, New Times, the CECAFA secretary
general Mr. Nicholas Musonye said hosting the West Africans would prove a
budgetary nightmare since flying them in and keeping them in the country for
the entire duration would cost the organizers over $25,000.
He is quoted as saying Zambia and Malawi are relatively
cheaper to host and confirmed that the two COSAFA affiliated countries will be
taking part in the 2013 edition of the tournament.
- Cote d’Ivoire will not be invited because it is expensive to fly them to
Nairobi and maintain them for the duration of the tournament. But we have
agreed to have Malawi and Zambia because it is relatively cheap.
-Inviting Cote d’Ivoire would cost the organizers over $25,000, he said.
an FKF function on Tuesday 8 October the federation chairman Sam Nyamweya had
indicated that plans are in place to have the West Africans participate in the
tournament as one of the guest teams.
