CECAFA 2012: Miheso on target as Stars drub South Sudan

Clifford Miheso scored less than ten minutes after coming on as a second half substitute to propel Harambee Stars to a 0-2 win over South Sudan in their second Pool ‘A’ match of the on-going CECAFA Senior Challenge Cup, at Nelson Mandela Stadium-Namboole.

Tusker defender David Ochieng’ rose high above his marker to head home Kevin Omondi’s corner-kick in the 13th minute with keeper Juma Genaro well beaten.

Wasted chances

Stars had a better of the first half with Paul Were and Mike Barasa missing numerous chances.

Sudan tried to come back into the game making several raids but they couldn’t penetrate Kenya defense.

Crucial win

Miheso came off the bench in the 57th minute, replacing Were and after ten nine minute, the Thika United midfielder unleashed a powerful left-footed shot past Genero to secure the much needed win for James Nandwa’s side.

Sudan’s best chance of the game came in the 84th minute but Justin Joseph’s feeble volley was easily picked by keeper Duncan Ochieng.

On the table

The win saw Kenya temporarily leapfrog Uganda Cranes at the top courtesy of goals superiority.

Cranes, who beat Stars 1-0 in the opening match, are currently playing against Ethiopia at the same venue.
