Baraza to reclaim coaching helm at Sony

Coach Rishadi Shedu’s fate looks sealed at Awendo based Kenya Premier League team Sony Sugar after it was reported he deserted the club after their match against Red berets [10th July] where they were beaten 1-0.

Our sources told this writer Coach Shedu left annoyed claiming he was being undermined by some members of his technical bench especially on squad formation.

Shedu sent text messages saying that he had cancelled his contract and wanted his remaining dues. On a number of occasions Coach Shedu had told this writer on his frustrations especially after their game against Sofapaka [on 13th June which ended 1-1] where fans hurled abuses at him.

Shedu, an assistant Coach with the Kenya U20 team, has claimed his assistant Francis Baraza had hired hooligans to throw insults at him claims the latter denies.

"I am the same person who recommended to the management that Coach Shedu should come over and I even accepted to work as his assistant. Now that things have not worked his way he should avoid the blame game” said Baraza soon after Sony ended Mathare United’s 16 game unbeaten run with a 2-0 win a fortnight ago.

One of the top officials of the club who did not want to be quoted said that coach Shedu came to the club to strengthen it but it was unfortunate his performance was dwindling after every match a thing that brought a lot of tension.

The same official added that Shedu’s fate is sealed as the text messages he sent will be used against him.

Baraza who has since assumed the reigns of Shedu registered the famous win over Mathare and earned a draw in the next game against Mahakama.

With Baraza as coach, Sony Sugar wrested the 2006 Premier League then finished third in 2007 and then second in 2008. In 2009 Sony concluded the league placed 10th after the team suffered mass exodus of players to Nairobi based clubs.

Sony is currently placed 13th with 19 points six off the relegation spot.
