Auxerre pays price of suspended Oliech

Ten-man AJ Auxerre, felt the absence of their two lead strikers Kenyan international Dennis Oliech and his Burkina Faso counterpart Alain Traore, as they lost 1-2 to Caen in the Coupe de la Ligue pre-quarterfinals on Wednesday 26 October at Stade de l'Abbé Deschamps.

The hosts displayed spirited fight with the match going into the extra time before Caen booked a slot into the last eight with 7628 fans in-attendance.

Livio Nabab broke the deadlock for Caen in the 24th minute, before Israel international Ben Sahar equalized for Auxerre in the 29th minute.

Auxerre were reduced to ten-man after defender Wily Boly was shown marching orders, six minutes after the break.

The match went into the extra time with both teams holding their grips tight, before Nabab sealed the victory for the visitors in the 117th minute.

Auxerre are currently 11th on the Ligue 1 slot with 12 points, three behind ninth placed Caen.
