The Algeria military side emerged champions in the just
concluded World Military games held in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. The Algerians
played Egypt in a mouthwatering final of the tournament that brought together
military teams from around the globe.
The Algerians proved the better side in the match but
managed a slim 1-0 win over the Egyptian counterparts courtesy of a 16th minute
goal by Sid Ahmed Aouedj. Both team were however brilliant having made it thus
far since the group stages of the games.
The Egyptian team was in the same group (B) with Kenyan
representatives Ulinzi Stars but got the better of them in the first match. The
northerners thrashed Ulinzi 4-1 in their first group encounter subsequently
finishing top of the group.
Other teams in the group included Equador whom Egypt
walloped 5-0 and France who they beat 2-0 in the final group match. Their big
wins did not stop there as they whipped Qatar 5-0 in the semifinals while
Algeria zoomed past Samba boys Brazil 4-1 in another semifinal.
Kenya’s representatives Ulinzi Stars returned to the country
Tuesday morning and have after being in Brazil for two weeks. They did not come
back empty handed as they won their second group match against France by
humiliating them 3-0.
