Zoo, Shabana furious over officiating

Whistle

Despite Zoo Kericho’s 2-1 win over Shabana, on Sunday 14 October, Coach Ken Ochieng’ was unhappy with the way centre referee Daniel Ashinuri handled the Division One [Western Zone] match.

Geoffrey Gichana and Gilbert Ayieko got the goals for the hosts with Joseph Muturi scoring Shabana’s goal.

Poor officiating

-The officiating was very poor. Both teams were fighting for nothing, but the referee’s [Daniel Ashinuri] decisions created a lot of tension.

-He’s an incompetent referee and I wonder how FKF allowed him to officiate the match; he made wrong calls through-out the match, said Ochieng’ to futaa.com.

Incompetent

His sentiments were echoed by Shabana’s team manager Fred Olundu, who feels that the federation should appoint competent referees to handle the remaining matches.

-The referees thought that we were not coming and for sure they had a fixed mind; all their decisions were wrong. They added 14 minutes after normal time and that’s when Zoo scored the winner.

-It’s very unfortunate that teams are sacrificing to pay a lot of money to referees who turn out to derail the game. We urge the federation to assign competent referees the remaining matches, Olundu told futaa.com.
