Kenya has had some prolific strikers and if we can all remember the first Kenyan striker to ever grace the European circuit is non other than Mike Origi Okoth.
Once a keeper turned to a lethal striker, Okoth was sensational in his heydays as he played both for Harambee Stars and several clubs in Belgium including Oostende, Harelbeke and Genk in the Belgian League.
He has groomed his next linage in football with his budding young son Divock Origi, now a Belgian citizen, already drafted in the Belgium under 15 and 16 National teams. Divock, born on 18th April 1995, a defensive midfielder, is the new star to watch in the Belgium National youth team.
Beef up
The young midfield prodigy recently transferred from Genk youth team to Lille in the French league beginning July of this year.
With the new Kenyan constitutional dispensation that allows for dual citizenship, this is the generation of players Kenya should be looking for to beef up their youth development in readiness to for the senior team position.
Divock is very talented and getting rave reviews in the foreign media perhaps emulating his father, a former Itierio High, Shabana and Kenya Breweries player who went on to play professional football for close to 15 years in Belgium.
