The American Major League Soccer (MLS) side Vancouver Whitecaps, which Kenyan midfielder Crispin Olando is trying out with, on Sunday 17 February handed the College of Charleston a 2-0 beating, registering their fifth straight pre-season wins.
Both goals were netted by Paulo Jr., the first coming in the 10th minute, after a great interplay with Corey Hertzog. The victory was sealed in the 28th minute, with Paulo teaming up well with Russell Teibert to send the ball past Charleston Keeper Kees Heemskerk.
Speaking after the match, Whitecaps’ head Coach Martin Rennie said that he was impressed with the team’s progress so far.
-It was an excellent game tonight. We put in a good shift for the whole game and I was really pleased with how we played. I thought that there was a number of very good performances, Rennie told the club’s official website.
-I would have liked to have seen us be a little bit more clinical in the final third, connect our passes just a little bit better, but overall our possession, our movement, our defending was very good and our pressure on the ball was excellent. It resulted in us not really giving up a shot on goal, so overall I'm very pleased and it's a good sign.
Olando played in the match, coming in as a 45th minute substitute for Evan James.
