Manchester United striker Wayne Rooney has been named England captain for Friday’s (October 12) World Cup qualifier match against San Marino.
According to Sporting life, England Manager Roy Hodgson has handed Rooney the armband with regular skipper Steven Gerrard absent through suspension after his red card against Ukraine last month.
First time
It will be the first time for Rooney, who has won
76 caps for England to skipper the national team in a competitive international
match.
However, Gerrard is set to regain the captaincy
when he returns from suspension against Poland next Tuesday.
