English Premier League giants Manchester United’s £24m signing Robin Van Persie lasted just 45 minutes in his country, Netherlands’ 2013 World Cup qualifier against Hungary on Tuesday 11 September.
Won 4 – 1
The striker was substituted with what was suspected to be a thigh strain after a challenge by Hungarian defender Roland Juhasz a few minutes before the break and was replaced by Klaas Jan Huntelaar in the game which the 2010 world cup finalists went on to win 4 – 1.
However, the Dutch coach Louis van Gaal, later told guardian.co.uk that the striker’s injury didn’t look too serious and he was withdrawn as a precautionary measure.
- We took off Robin for precautionary measures. It doesn't seem to be too serious, but you never know. We didn't want to take any risks, he said.
The win was Holland’s second in as many games in Group D after their 2 – 0 win over Turkey on Saturday 8 September in which Van Persie scored the opener.
