Nairobi City Stars managed to overturn a first half assault from their weekend visitors KCB and secured a vital 1-0 win over the Bankers at their Hope Centre grounds.
The hosts came back into the game after the restart and did not take long to get their form back with veteran Francis Thairu proving their savior after a goalmouth mêlée.
The win ensures that they have not only safeguarded their position in the senior league at least for now and also made strides towards eventually escaping relegation at the end of the season.
KCB wingers Edwin Mwaura and Peter Wainaina were brilliant in the first half as they piled pressures on their hosts but the defenders did not bulge to the force.
The second half was a different affair for the bankers as they found themselves on the receiving end in the match with City Stars firing from all directions on the pitch.
The hosts' efforts bore 14 minutes into the second half with veteran Francis Thairu sneaking in a shot that was mildly deflected by a KCB defender to rescue the team's survival hopes.
Nairobi City Stars will now hope to sustain the impressive form into the last matches of the season especially after the loss of their main challengers at the bottom MuhoronI Youth to Tusker FC at MISC Kasarani.
KCB will remain in the 11th position on the log despite the loss.
