The third day in the Kenya Premier League under 19 ended on a rather calm note when Mathare United drew 2-2 with Kenya Commercial Bank (KCB)
In the afternoon kickoff, the Mathare youth came head to head with Nairobi City Stars. The City youths must have been hoping to emulate their senior team and pull a surprise win over the slum kids but this was not to be.
balanced game
The game witnessed balanced attacks from both teams but City Stars drew the first blood through a James Erick strike in the 43rd minute. It was a well calculated move the cut through the Mathare defense leaving them gasping for breath.
The young Stars were not done yet and in the second half, Peter Mukeithi used his emphatic dribbling skills to slot the second in the 53rd minute. They seemed to be quickly taking control of the game but Mathare engaged a higher gear.
revival
The Mathare juniors suddenly roared like wounded lions as they went on rampage. Harrison Mwendwa was the first to hit the net in the 53rd minute through a well taken spot kick. The tempo of the game changed in favor of the Mathare team as went for goal.
In the 73rd minute, Ronny rushed in a shot that left the City Stars defenders dumb folded. Things were level within a blink of a second to the surprise of the spectators.
The tournament continues tomorrow with group C and D matches underway.
