Two Africans on FIFA Ballon d'Or list

Two African players have been named in the list for the 2012 FIFA Ballon d' Or (FIFA player of the year)

Ivorian duo Didier Drogba and Yaya Toure have been named in the 23 man shortlist for the award which takes in effect outstanding displays in the world of football.

Drogba shone for Chelsea in their fruitful UEFA Champions League campaign this year, while Toure was influential for Manchester City during their English Premier League success.

The usual suspects, Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo are also on the list.

The annual award, which chooses the best footballer in the world from the last 12 months, will be announced on January 7 2013 but a preliminary three man shortlist will be drawn up by the end of November 2012.

Votes will be cast by 209 coaches, captains of national teams and 49 journalists from France Football, the magazine that originally created the Ballon d’Or.
