Taifa Stars drowned in CAR

The Tanzania Stars were beaten 2-1 by their group counterparts from the Central African Republic on Sunday 5th June 2011. The game was however characterized by a heavy downpour and the players had to bear with a soggy pitch for the better part of the match.

Attacking game

The group D Africa Cup of Nations qualifier clash played in Bangui witnessed a clear display of attacking football from both sides but the Central Africa Republic players seemed more focused on giving their home fans something to smile about.

The first goal of the match came in the 39th minute when the CAR striker managed to tear the stars defense and slot the first. This sent the stadium to song and dance as they cheered their team for a second before the break but that was not to be.

Leveled matters

The Stars leveled matters in the second half with 15 minutes left to the final whistle through prolific striker Shaaban Nditi after he left three Central African Republic defenders for the dead. Substitute Athumani Machupa had his 77th minute goal disallowed for an offside after coming in for Mwinyi Kazinmoto.

The hosts went ahead late into the match after a perfect break to make sure that they carried all the all the three vital points. Idrissa Rajab who plays for local club Sofapaka was instrumental in the game but this was not enough to secure Stars a win.
