Stern action awaits Sparki after referee attack

Admiral - Sparki

On Saturday 22 August 2012, a Division One Zone A tie between Admiral and Sparki Youth ended two minutes to time after the centre referee Martin Wekesa was attacked and injured by fans said to be from Saprki Youth.

Reported to the Police

The unfortunate occurrence has been reported to Football Kenya Federation (FKF) and the Chair of the Technical Committee Elly Mukolwe has made known the Federation’s position on the matter.

- We have received reports that two referees have been badly beaten during the Admiral – Sparki game.

- I have directed that the matter be reported to the police and the culprit to be apprehended with immediate effect

Most shocking

-We understand that one of the referees is in a bad state and now in a private Hospital

-Someone cannot be beaten just because of football. What’s most shocking about this incident is that it was instigated by the assistant Coach of Sparki Youth as we have been informed

Planned for Mombasa

-As a federation we will not entertain this kind of nonsense – assault of any kind in football is not acceptable

-This calls for stern disciplinary action from the Federation that will soon be known

The Admiral – Sparki tie was the only second tier tie planned for Mombasa and one of four in Division One Zone on Saturday.
