The state of stadia in use for the Kenya Premier league can generally be described using one word. Deplorable.
The Thika municipal stadium, home to Thika United FC, fits the bill.
The state of the pitch during the Kenya Premier League tie with Karuturi sports was shocking. Most parts of the pitch, which were dusty, are unfit for a game of such high standards.
comforts of home
The uneven nature of the pitch took the gloss of the game, and one feared for the safety of the players who struggled to maintain possession of the ball.
Watching the game from the comforts of home was an uncomfortable experience.
The match which was full of energy and enterprise was in someway spoilt by the state of the pitch, a pity considering the two sides are known for their open approach to playing football.
untarnished record
Peter Opiyo, a masterclass passer of the ball was reduced to cat and mouse games with the ball over the ninety minutes.
Thika United’s strengths over the years, has been building young players in the philosophy of a solid passing game. With a pitch like that the story gets twisted.
The club management which has an untarnished record has to do something about the state of the pitch. Urgently.
