Very few can dispute the fact that Frank Mwangi is one of the most dedicated fans of the 2009 Kenyan Premier League (KPL) champions Sofapaka as you are most likely to always spot him during Sofapaka’s games both in and outside the country.
Good business
Ahead of the start of the new season, he spared some time with futaa.com to analyse his favourite team’s transfer activity since the close of last season and his general feeling was that the club did some good business in that sector.
He informed futaa.com his satisfaction especially with the fact that the club went as far as scouting for young and upcoming talented players and singled some straight from high school which shows the club is also sparing time for building talent.
Young players
-We did some very good signings this transfer period and I am sure the players will do well if given the chance. I am especially happy that the club spared time to scout and sign good young players like Collins Shivachi who came directly from school.
-This shows my team is sparing time to develop upcoming footballers which is a great contribution to the country’s football, he said.
Opiyo-Agwanda regret
He however had reservations with some of the dealings, for example that of goalkeeper George Opiyo who was released and joined Tusker. Mwangi feels the keeper was good and should have been allowed to stay. He also rued the miss on SoNy Sugar striker Enock Agwanda, whose move for some time looked like a done deal.
-I still hold the feeling that George Opiyo should not have been released, he was a great keeper and for sure we’ll miss him. Missing out on Enock Agwanda was also painful because he is a lethal striker and for a moment I thought he was ours for the taking; I wish SoNy had let him follow his heart, he added.
