With the Tusker Premier League (TPL) title chances already fading, the 2009 league Champions Sofapaka are shifting their focus on the only realistic chance of silverware this season – the President’s Cup tournament.
Raring to go
Sofapaka, winners of the domestic cup in 2010, are set to meet the reigning league champions Tusker in the semi final of the President’s Cup and according to team manager Jacques Roberto, they are raring to take on the Ruaraka side.
Batoto Ba Mungu have never lost to Tusker in competitive matches and Roberto hopes that the great run over the Brewers will continue in the two team’s meeting on Sunday 21 October, a run that he expects to see Sofapaka qualify for the CAF Confederations Cup next year.
Continental aim
-The league title is now beyond our reach realistically. Therefore the only chance of winning something in the season is in the President’s Cup; we can’t wait to get over with this because we are aiming at a continental show next year.
-We have also had a good run against Tusker in our history so I don’t expect them to break it in our game, the players are also looking forward to the challenge so we are hoping for the best, he told futaa.com.
Experience
Sofapaka were finalists in the tournament last year, losing 0 – 1 to Gor Mahia. They also have some experience in the CAF Confederations Cup after taking part in 2011 where they had a good run until their elimination at the hands of Club Africain.
