Sofapaka lands FK Cup semifinal ticket

Sofapaka

Sofapaka squeezed their way past a resilient KRA and qualified for the semifinals of the 2012 FKF Cup tournament with a 2-1 win over their opponents at the City Stadium Saturday afternoon.

The match witnessed thrilling action as the visitors made early raids into the 2009 League champions and making their intentions clear.

KRA brilliant in first half

The taxmen got their first chance in the fifth minute through Michael Macharia but he blasted his shot over the bar. Morris Odhiambo then created a second moment later but was wasteful on the resultant corner kick.

Sofapaka then started to hit back with Humphrey Mieno crashing his header against the goalpost in the seventh minute to leave matters level.

KRA’s efforts were however rewarded in the 20th minute through a Michael Macharia penalty after Sofa’s George Owino brought down Barrack Odhiambo in the area.

Sofa's comeback

The lead however lasted 10 minutes as Batoto Ba Mungu defender George Owino made up for his earlier slipup with the equalizer in the 29th minute from an Osborn Monday freekick.

A midfield battle then ensured with Humphery Mieno wasting a great chance minutes later to leave matters at 1-1 into the halftime break.

The second half witnessed adrenaline action as it turned into an end to end game with Sofapaka now appearing to offer a better challenge to the Division One side.

Their players were however guilty of wasted chances as Mieno and Kimani proved  major culprits for this.

Sofapaka then staged a comeback through continued intense pressure on the taxmen getting a penalty after Humphrey Mieno was brought down in the box by Collins Tiego.

Osborne Monday calmly slotted in to leave Sofapaka leading the match though KRA continues to exert pressure on them.

Nyaga and Mieno then missed one on ones with the keeper towards the end of the match as the match ended 2-1 in the former champions' favor.

Sofapaka will now face the Sunday 7th October 2012 winner between Talanta and Tusker FC.
