Sofapaka 1-0 Ulinzi Stars

FKL Cup winners Sofapaka FC have added another trophy to their cabinet after beating a resilient Ulinzi Stars side in the newly-launched DSTV Supersport Cup.

Sofapaka scored through striker John Baraza after good interplay between him and fellow striker Francis Ouma in the 13th minute, taking it past Ulinzi custodian Francis Onyiso.

In the first half it was all Sofapaka FC, though the tide turned towards the end of the half with a surge by the military side.

Multiple Chances

The second half saw Ulinzi create a barrage of chances as Sofapaka seemed resolved on defending their slender lead. The military men made so many chances but were unlucky not to score after a header by Stephen Waruru agonizingly hit the post.

James Mulinge made Sofapaka defenders work hard with his pinpoint throws into the 18yard box. Ulinzi striker Waruru worked hard with some interesting runs, but was unfortunate not to score.

Unlucky

Ulinzi coach Benjamin Nyangweso concedes the team played better and created more chances in the second half. ‘We were unlucky, given the many chances we had’.

Sofapaka coach Ezekiel Akhwana was full of praise for last season’s Golden Boot winner, John Baraza. ‘ Going by the way he’s played today, he’ll have a good season’.

Sofapaka open their season with a game against Mathare United on the 27th of February.

Sofapaka were given the winners’ trophy plus 750,000 shillings, while Ulinzi got 500,000 shillings.
