Sofapaka and Oserian share spoils

Oserian FC
Oserian held 2009 Kenyan Premier League champions Sofapaka FC to a barren draw on Sunday 30 September 2012 at the Nyayo National Stadium.

First half

Both teams seemed cautious initially, playing long balls with the intention of catching each other on the counter but the tactic bore no fruit for either. With the game settling well, Oserian lost a precious chance to take the lead, team captain Frankline Osama blasting a freekick from the edge of the box after George Amayo had been fouled just outside the box in the 28th minute.

Sofapaka's lethal striker John Baraza shot wide from the edge of the box three minutes later after being put through by Heritier Luvualu. From then on the game swung into Oserian's favour, the team enjoying more possession, their only being upfront. Oserian defender Dennis Kalama fouled Osborne Monday outside the box but George Wise Ochieng's resultant freekick was parried by George Ochieng back into play, first half ending in a barren draw.

Changes

Both teams made changes in the second half, Heritier Luvualu coming out for Joseph Nyaga, John Njoroge being rested by Sofapaka for Thomas Wanyama while Oserian's John Keo came in for Abdul Aziz while former AFC Leopards striker Joseph Okumu came in for Dennis Wafula.

Oserian's changes seemed to have worked in their favour as they now worked as a team and enjoyed more possession and piled pressure on Sofapaka consistently. James Situma was yellow carded in the 66th minute for a harsh tackle on Jack Obai. Joseph Okumu missed a glorious chance to put Oserian in the lead, blasting the ball wide with only the goalkeeper to beat, after being put with a pinpoint pass by the hard working John Keo.

Both teams resorted to counter attacks in the dying minutes of the match but neither broke the deadlock game ending in a barren draw.

After the result, Sofapaka is sixth with 41 points from 26 matches while Oserian is still second bottom with 21 points having played the same number of matches.
