A late penalty from Kigi Makasi secured a 2-1 victory for Simba SC over visiting Kenyan Premier League side Mathare United, in a friendly match on Sunday 28 August, at Sheikh Amri Abeid Memorial Stadium.
After a barren first half, Ghanaian international Daniel Akuffo broke a gritty deadlock in the 53rd minute with a bullet header to put the hosts in front.
However, it took the KPL side only ten minutes to level the score. Daniel Mwaura’s shot at the edge of the box, deflected off the foot of Juma Nyoso and landed into the net.
In the 82nd minute Uhuru Selemani was brought down in the area by Lloyd Wahome for Salim Kinje-captained side to be awarded a penalty.
Makasi stepped up and sent Martin Musalia the wrong way from 12 yards.
The friendly match saw former AFC Leopards central defender Pascal Ochieng’ make his debut for the Tanzanian Premier League giants.
Mathare, who are currently placed 11th on the KPL table, are expected to jet-in today in the evening.
