Suspended Football Kenya Federation (FKF) Vice-chair Sammy Sholei has backed Harambee Stars head coach Henri Michel over his selection criteria for Kenya’s team for the upcoming friendly match against Bafana Bafana of South Africa.
The Frenchman announced a 15-man local based squad, on Monday 8 October, for next week’s build up match, to be staged at Nyayo National stadium.
Policies
According to the former international midfielder, the Frenchman has considered physical built and technical abilities which are easier to work on rather than talent.-Michel is such type
of a coach who can manipulate any player in any position. From what I know, the
worse he wants to start with is a draw.
-He’s gone for players
whom he knows can fit in his playing system; what they need to understand is to
defend, clear the ball and start the moves. Most of the time the defense does
not need smartness but energy and security.
-That’s what Michel
is doing; energy and security in
the defense will be complimented by the midfield and striking force that is capable of handling
and managing their opponents.
Fair representation
Sholei further lauded
the coach’s decision to inject new blood in the team.
-Most of our previous coaches missed such ideas, and I
am happy that he has even seen a player from Western Stima (Wesley Kemboi) for that
matter, said Sholei to futaa.com.
Squad: Fredrick Onyango, Chritopher Wekesa, Antony Akumu, Donald
Mosoti (Gor Mahia), Jacktone Odhiambo, Godfrey Kokoyo, Mulinge Ndetto (Ulinzi
Stars), Osborn Monday, James Situma,
Eugine Asike ( Sofapaka), Francis Kahata (Thika United), Wesley Kemboi (Western
Stima), Andrew Tololwa (Mathare United), Peter Opiyo (Tusker), Edwin Wafula (
AFC Leopards).
