Shehata joins Zamalek

.

Former Egyptian national team coach Hassan Shehata is the new head coach of Zamalek.

He replaces Hossam Hassan who was sacked after Zamalek finished second behind great rivals Al-Ahly at the end of the Egyptian league.

Shehata resigned as the Egyptian national team the Pharaoh's coach in June 2011 following a 0-0 draw against South Africa in a 2012 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier which left the reigning African champions qualification hopes in dire straits.

The decision to sack Hossam Hassan did not go well with Zamalek fans.

Unfair

One of the fans groups popularly known as White Knights Ultras has accused Zamalek's board of being ungrateful to Hassan's achievement of leading the team from the 13th place at the beginning of the season to finishing second.

They are planning to hold demonstrations on Wednesday 13th June 2011 in front of the Zamalek club headquarters to show their disapproval of the decision and for appointing Shehata.

Zamalek played Ulinzi stars earlier in the season in the CAF Champions league where the Egyptians beat the soldiers 4-0 at home and 1-0 away from home for a 5-0 aggregate win in the first round of the qualifiers.
