AFC Leopards will not be taking anything for granted as they are set for a busy Saturday (Jan 28) in the annual Ashitiva Memorial Tournament in Kakamega.
In their first match, the 12 times Kenyan Premier League winners will face an acid test from reigning champions National Youth Talent Academy (NYTA) in the morning hours before wrapping up the day’s business with a pulsating encounter against Division One debutant Kakamega Homeboyz FC later in the afternoon.
no monkey business
AFC and Homeboyz are not new to each other as they have met twice before. Late August last year, latter lost 2-0 in the pre-quarter FK Cup after having drawn 1-1 in the same tournament early 2011.
-We know how tough both teams are but my charges are ready; good results will set the tempo for the entire 2012 season, team manager Bernard Onyango told futaa.com.
-Last year it was a disaster but this time round we’ll take the matches more seriously, and winning the trophy is our target, added the team manager.
Leopards, who are currently camping in Mumias will use the tournament to sharpen their claws ahead of their KPL opening match against Chemelil Sugar FC on Saturday 11 February in Nairobi.
