SoNy Sugar managed a barren draw at home to the 2008 Tusker Premier League (TPL) champions Mathare United in the opening day of the 2013 season, on Sunday February 24 and the millers’ head coach Sammy Pamzo Omollo cut a satisfied figure afterwards.
The coach, who recently moved to the team, was guiding the millers in the first league game and speaking to futaa.com, said the players did well for the opening day, admitting that a few jitters could be spotted.
Improvement
He especially lauded the players for a great second half output and rued hard luck against a well composed Mathare United side but hinted that a few areas need some improvement.
-I was satisfied with the draw because on the positive side we did not lose yet we were taking on a very good Mathare United side. Being the first game I was satisfied with the players’ output; jitters are always there in the first game and they were seen in the first half.
Settled well
-In the second half we settled well, created some good chances but we were just unlucky and Mathare United were also well composed and gave us a hard time. However, going forward, I think there are a few areas we need to improve on but the general team output was good, he said.
SoNy Sugar’s next encounter is a clash against AFC Leopards in Nairobi on Friday 1 March.
