On Friday 27 January the country’s football scene was shaken after international goalkeeper Arnold Origi made public his decision to quit international football attracting calls of his return from the fans and a harsh criticism from other parties.
However, Origi’s former team mate and international goalkeeper Wilson Oburu, supports the Ullensaker/Kisa Il player’s decision arguing that in any ambitious footballer’s career health will always come first then the other targets follow.
Well thought
Speaking to futaa.com, he said Origi had started considering the option as early as during Antoine Hey’s reign so no one should mistake this for a rushed decision and the fact that he didn’t rule out a return should leave all happy and pray for his recovery.
-I support Origi’s decision because he quit due to health issues. Any footballer has to pay keen attention to his health and Origi is also at a stage in his career when he has to consider many other issues.
-His decision was not sudden I have been close to Origi for some time now and he has been considering it; the first time he told me about it, Hey was still the national team coach.
Show support
-As a country we should be happy that he didn’t completely close the door on an international return and pray for him to recover well. This is a hard time for him and we need to show him support as a brother, he said.
Origi’s last appearance for Harambee Stars was during the 2014 World Cup pre qualifier game against Seychelles at Nyayo Stadium as the Kenyan national team romped to a 7 – 0 aggregate win.
