Ombiji a proud man

Special Olympics Team
National Special Olympics team head coach Vince Ombiji says that he is proud of the effort the team put in during the just ended games in South Africa.

Ombiji's side came out fourth in South Africa in a successful outing in the Southern Africa country in a three day tournament dubbed the Unity Cup that ended on Saturday 6th October 2012.

Brave fight

The Kenyans gave a brave fight managing to reach the semifinals of the inaugural tourney by thumping Mauritius 9-0.

Hosts South Africa were however managed a narrow 3-1 win over the Kenyans on penalties after a barren draw result in normal timing of the match.

And speaking on their return, head coach Ombiji expressed his delight at the performance of his players.

Done better

- We did very well there and I was in some ways surprised at how well we did. It was more than we expected. In the final stages, we had injuries that cost us third place after a good outing.

- I am very pleased at what we achieved, he told Futaa.com.

On a highly positive note, Kenyan player Boniface Kimeu played in the best team of the tournament which faced off with an African legends side.
