Olum, a defender by trade has started the club's last couple of games and he did himself no harm this time with a solid display at the Columbus Stadium in Ohio.
The match itself was a game of two halves, the first dominated by the league leaders and the second by the home side.
Early and late goal
Sporting KC were well on their way early in the game after Charles Sapong gave them a tenth minute lead which they held to the half-time break.
In the second half, the home side gave their all and eventually equalised in injury time, as Eddie Gaven capitalised on strong pressure to score, to the utter dismay of the visitors.
Despite the draw, Sporting KC still lead the way in the MLS with 59 points from 32 games, three more than Chicago Fire from the same number of games played.
