On Saturday 2 March, AC Ajaccio, the French Ligue I side with which Kenyan forward Dennis Oliech is signed to, took on Bastia in a match which the hosts Bastia eventually won 1-0.
The match, however, ended on a sour note, with five players, three from Ajaccio, getting red-carded.
Ajaccio’s Mathieu Chalme was awarded the first red-card of the day in the 81st minute, coming off a second yellow-card.
More red-cards
Oliech was then handed marching orders in the third minute of time added on, after tackling Keeper Mickaël Landreau as he surged forward for a goal. The decision that did not go down well with his teammates, who lodged a verbal attack on the referee and their opponents.
In the ensuing brawl, three other players, Benjamin André (Ajaccio), Jerome Rothen and Florian Thauvin (both Bastia) were red-carded.
Fault
Speaking of the day’s incidents Bastia’s head Coach Frédéric Hantz blamed Oliech for the mess at the end of the match.
-The
important thing was to win andwe did the right thing by taking a lot of risks in
the offensive, Hantz is quoted as saying by Footmercato.
-I regret the incident late in the game with our two expulsions but I will not make any specific comments. I just would like to note that if Oliech had not fouled Landreau, there would have been no such incident.
The loss at Bastia was Ajaccio’s second in a row that follows on an earlier loss to Lille in the past weekend. The team now drops down from 13th to 14th in the 20-team log.
