In December 2012, as the Harambee Stars were preparing for the CECAFA Senior Challenge Cup, head Coach James Nandwa named Sporting Kansas City (Sporting K.C.) defender Lawrence Olum in his squad.
He, however, dropped him later and has now given him a snub, as the team prepares for an upcoming international friendly match against Libya.
High competition
Explaining the decision to leave him out, Nandwa said that as much as Olum was a fine defender, the position (on the national team) was heavily competed for.
-From my observation, Olum is good player. However, as far as the defense department is concerned, the national team is well covered and those that made the squad made it on merit, said Nandwa.
Nandwa added that he could consider the towering center-back for future duty.
Schedule
The match will be played on 6 February (an international FIFA friendly date ) in Tunisia.
