MYSA U16 heads out for Norway Cup

Mathare Youth Sports Association U16 boys’ team departed in the morning of Friday 20 July 2012 for the annual Norway Cup.

Contingent of 20 players

This time round, the team will be attending a special edition tournament that will be celebrating it’s 40th anniversary.

A contingent of 20 players, accompanied by MYSA Executive Council Chairperson Ruth Wamutua and MYSA Executive Director David Thiru departed for Norway aboard Turkish Airline flight TK608 at 0345hrs.

Expected to draw 1,700 teams

According to MYSA’s Director of Public Affairs and Communication Ismail Hussein Hassan, the team will spend a week with host families at Sogne in Norway, before travelling to Ekeberg fields in Oslo on the 28th of July ahead of the Norway Cup which kicks off on the same day.

Pre-quarters

The tournament that is expected to draw 1,700 teams and 30,000 participants started off back in the year 1972. It concludes on 4 August 2012.

In 2011, the U16 team won six of seven games, outscoring their opponents 22 goals to six.

The team however left the scene at the pre-quarters in suffering the only loss in the tournament.
