The secretary general of the Confederation of East and Central Africa Football Associations (CECAFA) Mr. Nicholas Musonye is not taking lightly the comments by the Kenya national soccer team coach Henri Michel about the CECAFA Senior Challenge slated for later in the year.
The Frenchman, appointed in August, labelled the tournament ‘useless’ in his first interview with the media through his translator during the national team’s training at the Moi International Sports Centre (MISC) Kasarani and opted to prepare well for CHAN instead.
Musonye, however, speaking to futaa.com, said the former France international has no grounds to judge how important the regional tournament is and even went ahead to question the Harambee Stars’ coach’s credentials.
-Michel has nothing to show in Africa – in fact people in Africa are wondering why Kenya got him. He is here for publicity and if I were him I'd be more worried about where my salary will come from. If I were in the federation I would not have interviewed him at all unless for Women football from where I come from.
-If Kenya wants to skip CECAFA let them do so, they add no value at all. We kicked them out of the 2005 edition and if they do not want to show up so be it; it is fine with us. They have introduced politics and CECAFA will respond equally, he told futaa.com.
