The Airtel Sponsored Rising Star Kenya Secondary Schools Sports Association (KSSSA)Term II B ball games entered its second day with Western Province representatives Mumias Muslim maintaining their unbeaten streak with a slim 3-2 win over a determined County High School from North Eastern Province at Moi Forces academy grounds in Nairobi.
The Western Provincial Champions scored their three goals through lethal striker Ibrahim Salim was who also hit he back of the net in the opening match against Milimani, Adam Juma and Twahir Ali to seal a second win for the sugar boys.
Debutants Mumias Muslim under the tutelage of former international defender Silvanus Otema and assisted by Abubakar Shikanda, overcame soccer giants Kakamega High School and Mukumu Boys during the provincial finals to advance to the national
Muslim currently leading pool B with six points after an impressive 3-2 victory over hosts Milimani High on Tuesday 9th August in their opening match. In the other pool match, hopes of Nairobi representatives Milamani High qualifying into the next round flirted after a barren draw against Chania High from Eastern.
According to Muslim's assistant coach Shikanda, heads are high and they are geared towards scooping the national championships on their maiden appearance.
-The boys are fit and determined to bring the trophy to Mumias.Tactically we think we are above other teams,the only threat is St.Anthony Kitale because they have had more national appearances as compared to us.
-Going as per our two matches, we aim to advance to the next round as number one, that's why we are taking tomorrow's game against Chania High as very important.
Former champs face an acid test
Although Otema’s boys are through into next round, they will battle it out against Chania High in their final preliminary match on 11th August at Moi Forces Academy as Milimani try redeem themselves against County High.
Meanwhile in pool A, former defending champions,St.Anthony Kitale of Rift Valley province will be facing an acid test when they face Coast representatives Tononoka as Gekomoni High from Nyanza face Isiolo High from Eastern today 10th August in the afternoon.
St. Antony wiped Isiolo 2-1 in the opening match on Tuesday 9th August as Gekomoni also emerged the winners against Tononoka. Paul Muga and Amos Muga scored for St. Anthony as Fuad Omar netted for Isiolo. Tononoka scored its only goal via Ronald Juma while Gekomoni scored their winning goal through Dennis Omondi after Pascal Makori has opened the score-sheet.
