The lone goal in the game aired live by Super Sport International from the Nyayo National Stadium was scored Fred Okello in the 13th minute.
Rangers should have picked a point from the game but the substitute Japhary Oyando crushed a penalty off the cross bar to the utter shock of his technical bench.
Rangers had an earlier chance – in the 25th minute when midfielder Eric Muranda unleashed a cross for Baldwin Ngwa in the box. Muhoroni keeper Joseck Gathongo however did well to cut Ngwa out.
Three minutes on, Muranda sent one of his trademarks hard shots goal ward but it went just above the cross bar.
Former Sofapaka and AFC Leopards defender Harry Gentle could have doubled the scores for his side but his dipping free kick was somehow punched out by Rangers keeper Victor Omondi.
Just at the stroke of half time, Muranda whipped in a cross from the right and a connection from Edwin Ombasa was spilled by Gathongo before he made it safe by collecting the ball.
Muhoroni were 0-2 up on 57 minutes but Sammy Wakanya’s header was disallowed as Abbey Kunrunmi had a touch on keeper Omondi.
Rangers charge for an equalizer suffered a severe blow on 69 minutes after Muranda was handed a straight red card and matching orders when he got his boots on the foot of substitute Yusuf Mohammed.
Oyando’s penalty miss that could have salvaged a point for rangers marked the final real goal scoring chance in the game.
